I made the garden at our back veranda the year of our 25th wedding anniversary. Knowing that we wanted to add a garden at the entrance, several family members gave us shrubs as gifts. We've maintained the garden fairly well over the past six years but it is in need of some TLC. The hydrangea - PG was almost 7 ft. tall and very leggy. I pruned it this spring and hope that it will fill out a bit this year.
The plan for this garden is predominantly maintenance, soil enhancement, and the addition of a border. We've decided on a paver stone edge boarder with pavers on their side to act as a slight retaining wall. The paver stone edge will make it easy for the lawn tractor to get close and will save some time trimming.

I spent the day today removing the deadwood from Hydrangea Annabelle and the Burning Bush. There was also a significant accumulation of cedar from the past two years. I cleaned this out as well. The garden is now edged to 4'. We'll have to extend it further when we are ready to add the brick edge. The soil is very light and is very much in need of some amendment. For today we gave it a good soaking.
