Other Projects

July 6, 2010 Granny and Grampa D's New Sidewalk

We decided to do the work on Granny and Grampa D's sidewalk at the same time as our patio. We went back and forth between the two projects to set them up, lay the gravel and do the packing.

Kathy and David removed the old stone and concrete a couple of weekends earlier so the prep work was considerably less than it would have been otherwise!

We followed the same process as for our patio - landscape cloth, gravel, crusher screenings - then Terry packed it down very well.
Laying the stones was a tedious process because the base was not as level as it should have been - not bad having done it by eye though. It was such a hot weekend that we had to take lots of breaks in the shade. Granny D kept the fluids coming!

Cutting the pieces for the edge proved to be a slow process - especially when the stones broke where they weren't supposed to. Terry got very good at it and managed to eliminate patio stone casualties. We were aiming for an irregular edge that will be filled in with grass.

Granny and Grampa D were very pleased with the end product!!

And so were we :)
